Synopsis[]
The play consists originally of five interlinked one-act plays all revolving around the same them. GUTS performed only three of them, with a cast of ten. Although each one-act play is a story in itself, the theme, confusions, keeps presenting itself in various guises. There is confusion in speech, personalities, relationships, and even age. In Mother Figure, a trapped and isolated housewife gradually draws her neighbors into her mental mix-up. In Between Mouthfuls, the only one who keeps his head cool in a flood of misunderstandings is the waiter, and in A Talk in the Park, nobody feels like understanding each other anyway. Confusions was first performed at the Apollo Theatre in London on May 19th, 1976.
